Symptoms of a Sinus Infection-The Truth
I could still remember the time when my elementary school nurse told me that I had a cold. I believed in the nurse and I just kept her diagnosis to myself. I lived a life of sneezing and nasal drip.
Later on, I started to think that the nurse didn’t know what she was talking about. “Why am I still having these symptoms I asked myself.” I decided to get a second opinion from different nurse. This school nurse told me that it wasn’t a cold, it was an allergy.
My parents were clueless when it came to over-the-counter medicine. My parents went to the supermarket and bought the drowsy kind. My teacher set me aside one day and actually accused me of taking illegal drugs. That was all because of the drowsy antihistamine I was taking.
That’s when my allergies and sinus problems started to elevate. I’m about to describe 2 kinds of sinus infections (aka sinusitis). Acute and chronic are the 2 kinds of sinus infections.
Here are the symptoms:
Acute Sinusitis Symptoms
* Mucus drainage down the back of the throat
* Fever is common
* Nasal congestion
* Pain behind the eyes
* Facial pain or soreness
* Pressure around the sinus cavities
* Nasal discharge
* Vision problems
* Headaches
Symptoms of Chronic Sinus Infection
* Bad breath
* Prolonged facial pain
* Chronic nasal discharge
* Pain below the eyes
* Prolonged headaches
* Pressure across or above your nasal passages
* Chronic sore throat
* Toothaches
How Long Will I Have These Sinus Problems?
You can see many similarities between the two. However, what is dissimilar is amount of time that the symptoms will last. Acute symptoms are shorter and typically last a month. Chronic sinus infection can last for months.
How Can I Treat Sinus Infections?
If your sinus infections aren’t severe, you can try over the counter medications to reduce some symptoms. Keep in mind that you should consult a medical professional, especially if you have pre-existing symptoms. I’m guessing that you would want to take a medication without having any problems, wouldn’t you?
